A Special Oceanography Treat: Discover Turtle Walker! 16th April

As part of our Oceanography Camp, we are in for a very special treat—a chance to meet the film crew behind the award-winning documentary Turtle Walker!

This remarkable film tells the inspiring story of Satish Bhaskar, a dedicated conservationist who spent years protecting sea turtles along India’s coastline. His work shows how one person’s determination can make a huge difference in saving endangered species.

Filming Turtle Walker was no easy task. The crew worked in remote locations, often at night, patiently waiting for turtles to arrive, all while making sure they did not disturb these incredible animals. From challenging weather to long expeditions, their journey was as inspiring as the story itself.

We are delighted to welcome:

🎬 Taira Malaney — an award-winning writer, director, and producer whose work explores the deep connection between people and the natural world. Through her films, she brings important environmental stories to life in a powerful and engaging way, helping audiences of all ages understand why protecting our planet matters.

🌍 Adith Swaminathan — Adhith’s journey with sea turtles began at the age of 10 with the Students Sea Turtle Conservation Network (SSTCN) in Chennai, where he participated in conservation efforts every year until he graduated. He joined Dakshin Foundation in 2008 and worked on olive ridleys in Rushikulya, Odisha, for two years. In 2010, he joined the leatherback monitoring programme in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, where he led leatherback research until 2024. He currently works for Turtle Foundation on sea turtle conservation projects in Indonesia, with a focus on Leatherback sea turtles. “

Together, they will share their experiences, stories from behind the scenes, and inspire our young scientists to care for our oceans and the amazing life within them.

This is a unique opportunity to meet real filmmakers and environmental leaders—and to see how science, storytelling, and passion can change the world!
