Frequently Asked Questions
What are the online science classes like?
Our online classes are live, interactive 50-minute sessions designed using blended learning techniques. Each lesson introduces an exciting scientific topic through engaging discussions, live demonstrations by the teacher, videos, presentations, and real-time experiments where children actively participate. The hands-on component is key, with every child completing a project related to the day’s topic.
What age groups are the classes for?
We offer two distinct online classes based on age: one for children aged 4-7 years and another for children aged 8-13 years.
How long is each class and how many students attend?
Each online session lasts for 50 minutes. We maintain small class sizes, typically with a maximum of 10 students, to ensure personalized attention and encourage active engagement, questions, and collaboration.
When are the classes held? (Including Time Zones)
Classes are held every Sunday morning at 9:30 am and 10:40 am UK time. Please note: This is currently British Summer Time (BST). During winter months, this will be Greenwich Mean Time (GMT). For participants in different time zones, please use an online time zone converter to confirm the exact start time in your region based on the current UK time.
Are there hands-on activities, and what materials are needed?
Yes! Hands-on projects are a core part of every session. We use simple, commonly available materials. A week before the class, we email you detailed parental notes (explaining the topics covered) along with a simple list of materials needed for the hands-on activities. This gives you plenty of time to gather the items. You can see a typical class materials list here: [Insert Link to Example Materials List Here]
How are the online classes structured? Are they run in terms?
Our online classes follow the UK school term dates, running as Autumn Term, Spring Term, and Summer Term. Enrollment is typically for a full term, which usually consists of 10-11 weekly sessions, depending on the specific term length.
Can we try a class before committing to a full term?
Yes, absolutely! We offer a free trial lesson for new students. This allows you and your child to experience our unique teaching approach and see if it’s a good fit before enrolling for the term.
What happens if we miss a class? Can we catch up?
Yes. All our live lessons are recorded. Parents receive access to these recordings, ensuring your child can easily catch up on any missed sessions and continue their learning journey without interruption.
What is the cost of enrollment?
The price is £19 per lesson, and the Summer Term includes 9 lessons, bringing the total to £171.
Do you also offer in-person classes or camps?
Yes, besides our online classes, we run in-person science classes in London on Sundays during term time. We also host popular Science Camps during all major school holidays (Half Terms, Easter, Summer, Christmas).
Where are the in-person activities located?
Our current in-person term-time classes and holiday camps take place in Chelsea and Hampstead in London. For full details and schedules for our in-person offerings, please visit: https://www.littlehouseofscience.com/camps/
