What if you could shrink down and step inside a living cell? Or travel through the human body, uncover the secrets of DNA, see the world through an animal’s eyes and explore the hidden life beneath our feet?

Across five days, children will take a journey through biology, from the microscopic world of cells, bacteria and DNA to evolution, animals, plants, the human body and the extraordinary diversity of life on Earth.

They will discover how Charles Darwin transformed our understanding of life, how Robert Hooke’s microscope opened an entirely new world, and how Lynn Margulis changed our understanding of the evolution of cells. They will investigate how vaccines work, uncover the story of DNA, compare human and animal senses, and explore how the heart, lungs and digestive system keep us alive. The journey then moves beyond the human body: into the world of plants and photosynthesis, seeds and trees, the layers of soil beneath our feet, and the remarkable adaptations that allow reptiles and other animals to survive.

Along the way, children will meet some of the scientists who changed our understanding of life including Edward Jenner and Jane Goodall, and explore a central question of biology: How did life become so wonderfully diverse?
